Forgotten Memories: A Story about Partition
Today and tomorrow the countries of Pakistan and India will celebrate Independence Day. Those of us who are first generation Pakistani/Indian-American may not have strong ties to our parents homeland but we still identify these countries as a part of who we are. The instability of these countries after partition is presumably a major reason why our parents left and came to America to give us a better life.
Partition was one of the most heartbreaking incidences in modern history and is rarely discussed along with the gruesome details being mostly unacknowledged. I made this video so that our generation never forgets the horrific atrocities either our grandparents or parents personally dealt with during Partition. While we are removed from both countries, the history of our ancestors cannot be erased. This year let us hope these two nations eventually find peace together.
